
Leigh is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the School of Public Health in University College Cork and the National Suicide Research Foundation. She is currently working on the EQUALISE project: Targeting inequalities in self-harm and suicide among children, adolescents and young adults.
Leigh obtained a BSc in Psychology from University College Dublin in 2021, followed by a PhD from UCD in 2025. Her PhD research examined public perceptions of the social determinants of mental health, and explored how certain causal explanations for mental health conditions may be linked to stigma.
Leigh’s research interests involve utilising diverse methodologies to address topics relating to the social determinants of mental health and suicide, stigma, reduced social inequalities, media representations, mental health communication, and help-seeking and mental healthcare access.
