Suicide

In Ireland, national suicide statistics are provided by the Central Statistics Office (CSO). These annual figures are usually published with a delay of approximately two years or longer.

The reason for the delay is due to a number of factors in the death classification system including delays with coroner’s and inquests. The most recent statistics are available through the CSO: Suicide Statistics – CSO – Central Statistics Office

Provisional rates of suicide for 2024 are available. Please visit the Vital statistics section of the CSO website.

For further information on data related to suicide, visit the National Office for Suicide Prevention.

Self-Harm

Statistics for self-harm come from our National Self-Harm Registry Ireland. This data is based on individuals who present to hospital Emergency Departments within the Republic of Ireland following self-harm.
