Identifying the needs of individuals who present to emergency departments following self-harm with co-occurring alcohol and/or drug use, to optimize referral and service provision

Project Overview

This project will explore insights into the experiences of individuals who present to hospitals in the CHO7 area with self-harm and co-occurring alcohol/drug use and to gain understanding of challenges and gaps in their treatment in ED settings, from the perspective of:

1. individuals who have presented to ED with self-harm and co-occurring alcohol/drug use

2. clinical and community staff who have experience working with individuals who have presented to the ED with self-harm and co-occurring alcohol/drug use. 

Project Aims

1. Examine the challenges and gaps in the provision of treatment for individuals who have presented to ED with self-harm and co-occurring alcohol/drug use

2. Review the next care and treatment pathways of individuals who presented to hospital with self-harm involving alcohol and drug use

3. To optimise referral pathways and service provision based on examined perspectives, in line with the current best practice guidance.
