Strategic Research Cluster: Suicide and the Media
In recent years, an increasing number of research projects have been conducted to determine the impact of media reporting on self-harm and suicide (HSE NOSP funded), and the development of media guidelines for media professionals and for filmmakers and others working on stage and screen (WHO funded).
In 2020, a literature review The harmful impact of suicide and self-harm content online was completed.
Considering this track record, the research gaps relating to suicide, self-harm and the media, including social media, and the involvement in international networks, we have established this research cluster.
