Almas Khan

Researcher, EAAD-Best & SAMAGH

Almas Khan, hails from New Delhi, India and joined the NSRF in 2022. She is working on two projects namely, European Alliance Against Depression- Best (EAAD-Best) and SAMAGH. These projects led by Prof Ella Arensman, aim to improve depression care and prevent suicidal behaviour and to improve the assessment, management, and support for high-risk self-harm and major self-harm repeaters respectively.

Almas graduated as a Master of Public Health (MPH) from University College Cork with a first-class honors. For her thesis, she undertook a systematic scoping review on types of sexual health services and support available for persons with physical disabilities in the context of EEA, EU, and UK.

Other than her MPH degree, she also holds an MBA in Health and Hospital Management and a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Her industry experience comprises of both clinical and management sides of healthcare. She started her career as a critical care nurse in a state-of-the-art teaching hospital in New Delhi. Later, she worked under the ambit of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship for more than four years. Amongst several responsibilities, her key functions included creating National Occupation Standards (NOS), learning resources, and undertaking training programmes to create a robust and vibrant eco-system for quality vocational education and skill development in healthcare space in India.

Her research interests vary from mental health advocacy, suicide prevention to HIV/AIDS, sexual health, obesity, alcohol use, smoking and tobacco cessation. She is also an avid follower of languages and is fluent in English, Hindi, Urdu, and Spanish.
