Yesterday, 1st September, the NSRF team were delighted to welcome Minister Mary Butler TD, Government Chief Whip and Minister for Mental Health to our offices!
Minister Butler met with members of the NSRF management team Dr Eve Griffin, Prof Ella Arensman, Dr Paul Corcoran, UCC President John O’Halloran and representatives from the NSRF’s Board of Directors, Brendan Whelan, and Lived Experience Panel, Mark Creegan.
The visit focused on the wide-ranging research undertaken by the NSRF and its contribution to national suicide prevention activities and broader mental health policy, in addition to the unique collaboration between the NSRF and UCC.
During the meeting with Minister Butler, the role of the NSRF in the development of the new suicide and self-harm reduction strategy was highlighted; in addition to the crucial role of suicide and self-harm surveillance systems such as the National Self-Harm Registry Ireland and the Suicide and Self-Harm Observatory.
The integration of Lived Experience in research via the NSRF’s Lived Experience Panel was outlined, and the importance of research focusing on suicide bereavement and postvention were highlighted.
